ことわざ (kotowaza) – Japanese Proverbs:

★　Today, we will learn two ことわざ (kotowaza) – Japanese proverbs or sayings – that are related with Autumn!

★　女心と秋の空 (onna gokoro to aki no sora) literally means “a woman’s heart and the autumn sky.”

★　The autumn sky in Japan is very unstable and canchange quickly

★　This kotowaza is comparing the autumn sky and a woman’s heart or emotions, which are said to change quickly and without warning.

★　Although this kotowaza is fairly well-known as it is now, the original saying was actually a little different!

★　The original saying was actually about men, not women.

★　男心と秋の空 (otoko gokoro to aki no sora) literally means “a man’s heart and the autumn sky.”

★　This saying came from the belief that men got bored or tired of things quickly and often changed their minds.

More Information:

★　The change of the kotowaza from men to women seems to be a fairly recent one.

★　In fact, there are theories that say the reason for the change is actually due to influence from the English Proverb “A woman’s mind and winter wind change often.”
