Coming of Age Day is a Japanese holiday to congratulate people who became 18 years old.

18 years old is the age of majority in Japan.

For about 140 years since the Meiji Era, the age of majority in Japan was set by the Civil Code at 20 years of age. This Civil Code was revised and the age of majority changed from 20 to 18 on April 1, 2022.

Many women wear kimono to celebrate this day.
