 You can use the Japanese counter 冊 (さつ – satsu) to count books and other bound objects, such as magazines.

Number 1:

 The Japanese word for one (book) is 一冊 (いっさつ – issatsu).

★ Be careful! Even though the the word for one in Japanese is 一 (いち – ichi), in this case 一冊 is not spoken as (いちさつ – ichisatsu)!
