 You can use the Japanese counter 杯 (はい – hai) to count liquid in cups, glasses, and bowls. For example,2 glasses of water would be水2杯 (mizu nihai).

 The Japanese word for one (glass of liquid) is 一杯 (いっぱい – ippai).

★ Be careful! Even though the the word for one in Japanese is 一 (いち – ichi), in this case 一杯 is not spoken as (いちはい – ichihai)!
