Japanese Grammar: “Too~to~” – て-form + できない – Review Notes
Today’s Japanese grammar lesson is by request! Today we will be learning the sentence pattern te-form of adjective + negative potential form of verb to say “too~to~”. Learn more about it below!

Today’s Grammar:
★ Today, we will learn how to say “so___that one can’t___” or “too___to___” in Japanese.
★ For example:
最近、朝が寒くて起きれない。
(Saikin, asa ga samukute okirenai)
Recently, it is so cold in the morning that I can’t get out of bed.
★ 寒くて (samukute) is the te-form of the adjective 寒い (samui) which means “cold”
★ 起きれない (okirenai) is the negative potential form of the verb 起きる (okiru) which means “to get up”
★ 寒くて起きれない (samukute okirenai) means “it’s too cold to get up”
★ Here’s another example:
怖くて振り向けない。
(Kowakute furimukenai)
I’m too scared to look back.
★ 怖くて (kowakute) is the te-form of the adjective 怖い (kowai) which means “scary” or “scared”
★ 振り向けない (furimukenai) is the negative potential form of the verb 振り向く (furimuku) which means “to look back“

Additional Examples:
疲れて歩けない。(tsukarete arukenai) = too tired to walk
暑くて眠れない。(atsukute nemurenai) = too hot to sleep
