Japanese Vocab Lesson 4: Transportation (のりもの)- Review Notes

Today we learned Japanese transportation vocabulary! In these notes we will review the vocabulary from today’s video and more! Learn the Japanese words for taxi, motorcycle, airport, and station.

Number 1:

Today we studied norimono! Norimono means vehicle or vehicles, but literally, it means “thing to ride.” Noru (乗る) is the verb “to ride” and mono (物) means “thing.”

Number 2:

The Japanese word for bus is basu! It sounds really similar to English!

The Japanese word for bus stop is basutei (バス停)

Number 3:

  The Japanese word for car is kuruma.

Another word for car is jidōsha. This is usually translated as “automobile” and is not used as much as kuruma is in everyday life.

Number 4:

  Jitensha means bicycle in Japanese!

Bicycles are a popular way to get around in many parts of Japan!

Number 5:

  Densha means train in Japanese!

Japanese people often take the densha to go to school or work! 

The Japanese word for train station is eki (駅).

Number 6:

The Japanese word for airplane is hikōki!

The Japanese word for airport is kūkō (空港)

  1. I saw a video where the kanji for “run over” 轢 was mentioned. And evidently it contains the kanji for car 車 and the kanji for fun 楽. So having fun with a car in japanese means to run someone over. Those guys who came up with those signs had a very weird way of thinking sometimes 😆
