★ We learned that many Japanese proverbs have English equivalents. Today we learned that there are also many Japanese proverbs that don’t quite translate.

ichigo ichie

★ 一期一会 (いちごいちえ – ichigo ichie) literally means “one time, one meeting” or“once in a lifetime encounter.”

★ It means that you should cherish each encounter as if it were a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. Treat every meeting like it is the first and the last, and enjoy every encounter to the fullest because it may not come to you again.

★ This proverb originated with traditional Japanese tea ceremony.
